The grey plover spends winter on the Exe in their non-breeding plumage featuring a pale white underside and mottled grey back, with a short, black bill.
A common feeding behaviour of the grey plover is a very upright standing position, running a few steps, then suddenly stopping to probe the mud.
The grey plover breeds in Arctic coastal regions across the north of Alaska, Canada and Russia nesting on the ground in shallow scrapes created in dry, open tundra.
