A view of Dawlish Country Park between a gap in the hedgerow

A 65-acre park of open countryside managed by Teignbridge District Council with free parking, a fenced dog training area, BBQ zone, community orchards, bike racks and wonderful viewpoints.

Getting There

Address: Dawlish Countryside Park, Exeter Rd, Dawlish EX7 0PA

By Foot: There is a pedestrian access point on Orchard Lane on the northern (Exeter) side of the park and two more off Shutterton Lane on the southern (Dawlish) side of the park. You can walk from Sainsbury's through the estate to the park.

By Car: Free car park off the A379 Exeter Road, 700 metres north of Sainsburys.

By Bus: Dartline 186 Dawlish Town Service stops at Sainsbury's Mon-Sat. Walk through the estate (not along Exeter Road) to reach the park via the Shutterton Lane crossing point and pedestrian access point. Stagecoach No.2 Service between Newton Abbot and Exeter stops nearby  on the main Exeter Road. Ask for Port Road stop (either direction) and cross with care if on Exeter-bound side. Be aware Exeter Road is a fast, busy road with limited visibility near Shutterton Lane.

Wildlife

The park hosts a variety of habitats including wildflower grassland, scrub and woodland, providing forage for insects and birds.

Spring Barley fields are managed for the endangered Cirl Bunting, while Skylarks are also a common sight.

In support of “Colour in the Margins“, one of a number of projects under the “Back from the Brink” scheme, seeds from the endangered arable plant “Small-flowered Catchfly” have been sown on the site and its progress monitored over the next few years.
